A pre-authorization hold is placed on your account when your debit card is used to make a point of sale (POS) purchase. The pre-authorization is sent by the merchant to verify you have sufficient funds in your account, and results in a hold to reserve those funds until the purchase settles (is completed). If the hold amount matches the purchase amount, the hold is removed automatically when the transaction posts to your account.
For gas, hotel/lodging, restaurant, or car rental transactions, the pre-authorization hold and the purchase amount may vary after being finalized to include incidentals, tips, etc. In those cases it can take longer for the hold to be removed and those funds made available to you.
There’s no action required on your part as the monies will become available to you once the hold expires which varies depending on the merchant, but usually doesn't exceed 7 business days.
Please note these holds may affect the availability of funds in your Cheese account to pay other items such as electronic funds transfers to other merchants or billers.
